• ALDI Solicits May’s SupportSupporters of the Peoples Democratic Party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar and his running mate, Peter Obi, took to the streets of London, yesterday, in a solidarity roadshow that took the city by storm for over four hours beginning from 10.30a.m., at the Northumberland Avenue Office of the Nigerian High Commission. After speeches by the Director General of the organisers of Atiku Leadership Development Initiative (ALDI), Dominic Nwuzor and the Diaspora Director, Dr. Wilson Diriwari, for international support for a credible and fair general elections beginning from February 16’s presidential and National Assembly elections, an open roof bus then started the London- wideAtiku/Obi mania, stopping first at 10 Downing Street just after noon, where a letter was delivered to the office and residence of the British Prime Minister (PM), Theresa May. Although the ALDI leadership was not allowed inside, one of the senior police officers on duty received the petition, promising them that the PM “will receive it first thing on Monday morning.”From there, the roadshow drew dance moves, waves and goodwill from many Londoners as the mania moved to elephant and castle, then to Brixton and also Peckham, among others, as many cheerleaders addressed the public from the open bus top, urging UK-based Nigerians to tell their loved ones in Nigeria to vote in the PDP candidate and his running mate. Aside the duo of Nwuzor and Diriwari , David Okoro, a Diaspora youth leader of ALDI , TV pundit and commentator, Godson Azu, also spoke, urging members of the Nigerian community to mobilise their family members and friends at home to vote in Atiku and Obi, saying, “both are entrepreneurs and leaders with proven track records for achievements.”As at the time of filing this report inside the rally bus in Peckham, at 3p.m. (London time), the Afrobeat music of Atikulation was still very much in the air.
